Praise to the Lord, The Almighty

Words: Joachim Neander, 1680.
Music: "Lobe den Herren," Erneuerten Gesangbuch, 1665. Harmony by William Sterndale Bennett, 1864.

Note: some of our hymnals have 3 verses for this song, some have 4. We found a 5th verse and it is so good we couldn't stand to leave it out, so here are not 3, not 4, but 5 verses.  The MIDI file will repeat for all 5, but you can stop it after as many as you like.

 Praise ye the Lord, the Almighty, the King of creation!
 O my soul, praise Him, for He is thy health and salvation!
 All ye who hear, now to His temple draw near;
 Praise Him in glad adoration.

 Praise ye the Lord, Who over all things so wondrously reigneth,
 Shelters thee under His wings, yea, so gently sustaineth!
 Hast thou not seen how thy desires ever have been
 Granted in what He ordaineth?

 Praise ye the Lord, who with marvelous wisdom hath made thee!
 Decked thee with health, and with loving hand guided and stayed thee;
 How oft in grief hath not He brought thee relief,
 Spreading His wings for to shade thee?

 Praise ye the Lord, who doth prosper thy work and defend thee;
 Surely His goodness and mercy here daily attend thee.
 Ponder anew what the Almighty can do,
 If with His love He befriend thee.

 Praise ye the Lord, O let all that is in me adore Him!
 All that hath life and breath, come now with praises before Him.
 Let the Amen sound from His people again,
 Gladly for all we adore Him.
